Week 2 Learning Journal

Part 1:

After reading the ADPRIMA study skills material, I realized that I have a few strong study habits but also clear areas that need improvement. I am good at finding a quiet place to study, understanding the main ideas when I read, and setting aside time to complete my work. However, I struggle with reviewing my notes on a regular basis, putting information into my own words, and consistently using structured methods like SQ3R. Reflecting on this helped me see that if I improve how I review and actively study, I can strengthen my learning and feel more confident in my academic work.

Part 3:

The project management presentations explain the basics of how projects are planned, organized, and completed successfully. They describe what a project is and emphasize the importance of managing time, resources, and tasks to meet specific goals within set constraints. The videos also introduce key tools used in project management, such as Gantt charts, which visually display project schedules, task durations, and dependencies. Together, the presentations show how structured planning and clear timelines help project managers coordinate work, track progress, and improve the likelihood of completing projects efficiently and on time.

Part 4:

The three capstone presentations I watched were OtterSoft (OtterParsing), A Bird’s Song, and Vault JS, and each one focused on a different type of project and goal. OtterParsing was a practical, real-world project that used natural language processing to help recruiters automatically parse resumes, and I thought it was well done because the problem was clearly explained and the solution felt useful and realistic. The presentation could have been improved by showing more examples or demonstrations of the system in action. A Bird’s Song was a creative video game project that told a story about environmental destruction and extinction, and I really liked how meaningful and emotional the idea was. The presentation was engaging, but it could have been stronger if the team talked more about the technical side of how the game was built. Vault JS focused on cybersecurity and machine learning by detecting malicious or obfuscated JavaScript code, which is a very challenging and important problem. The project seemed strong, but some of the explanations were a bit technical and could be simplified for a general audience. Overall, all three projects were interesting, well thought out, and showed a lot of effort, even though each presentation could be improved with clearer explanations or more visuals.

Part 5:

This week I learned more about how technology trends, teamwork, and project management all connect in real-world software development. The lectures on technology trends and computing showed how fast the industry is changing and why it is important to stay adaptable and continue learning new skills. The introduction to project management helped me better understand how projects are planned, organized, and managed, especially the importance of setting clear goals, timelines, and responsibilities. The teamwork videos emphasized that communication, accountability, and being a reliable team member are just as important as technical skills when working on group projects. Overall, this week helped me see how success in computer science is not only about coding, but also about collaboration, planning, and understanding where technology is headed in the future.

  1. I think you got your schedule down pretty well. I couldn't tell what the days of the week were but I assume the two columns on the right are weekends, I counted about 20 or so hours dedicated to school work so I'm confident that'll be enough, and even then you still have some room for extra time if needed. Keep up the great work!
